ADVENTURE

The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe

Perched perfectly on a snow-covered mountain in Truckee California, is a special place that is something out of a magical snow globe. High pines, crisp air, copper bathtubs, marshmallows roasting over cozy fires, and the faint sound of snowflakes falling on the high pines– where has this adventure taken me you ask? Straddling the California-Nevada border under the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains is the grandest lake of them all: Lake Tahoe. Feast your eyes on one of America’s greatest playgrounds–year round.

The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe
is home to one of the most beautiful copper soaking tubs and being that I’m on the hunt for the most luxurious bathtubs in America, The Ritz-Carlton invited me along to join in on the reindeer games.

We were reminded of that old saying, “It is the journey that matters.” Our adventure driving over the summit became a bit Truckee. ? Driving over the pass through a heavy snow storm, with required chain control, during a white out with white knuckles & my legs shaking from adrenalin… My focus was unbreakable, but we arrived at The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe with the warmest of welcomes despite getting stuck in the endless snowfall. Before arrival, David was attempting to push my car up a hill and I was slightly losing my patience while softly tapping on the gas, when Colin, a good Tahoe samaritan rolled up. Colin ended up helping David push my car up to an overflow parking area and graciously delivered us to our coveted destination. We were driving up the mountain, around the bend, when we caught our first glimpse. There it was in the distance… a magnificent castle-like chalet glowing in the mountain pines.

Lake Tahoe Winter

Break out your faux furs for this one, because it is about to get cozy! Note to self: I must get a vintage Land Rover… (Thanks Colin!) It was such a brilliant way to start a weekend because we prevailed in a mega snowstorm, met a cool local, the air felt like no air had ever felt in my lungs before & it was snowing magic…everywhere.

Lake Tahoe grand has a combined 22,000 acres of skiing and riding, 9 world-class ski resorts, unbelievable restaurants, and a world-class spa. From whichever vantage point you prefer, Lake Tahoe has something for everyone. So whether you are snow bunny or an escape artist, the mountains are calling, and YOU must go!

Snow Covered Lake Tahoe

Ski NorthstarIf you do answer that call, Northstar Ski Resort is right out the door of The Ritz-Carlton. One of the greatest things is the ski on/ski off ability with mountain concierge to make your experience seamless. Hit the backside of the mountain for some fresh tracks or take the gondola down to the village to partake in winter festivities such as ice-skating and/or friendly snowball fights. After a day of winter fun, be sure to attend “Marshmology” at The Ritz before your dinner at Manzanita. I’ve never loved “M” so much… Marshmallows, Manzanita, Mountains…

Lake Tahoe Relaxation

When David and I weren’t hitting the slopes, we kept finding moments of gratitude as we let relaxation occupy our time.  The copper soaking tub is what my “Tub Travel” dreams are made of– I cannot wait to get back! The view overlooks snow covered pines, the soaking tub retains the heat from the water and warms you in waves. Senses are awakened with the healing scent of fresh eucalyptus and you welcome the space to deep breathe because you realize you don’t do that enough…

Our cozy “Cabin” couples massage was exquisite. In addition to the healing massage strokes, our therapists positioned warm towels to support our necks, and confirmed that we were both in the utmost comfort. At the conclusion of the 50-minute massages, our therapists peacefully woke us . David and I exchanged blissful smiles and soaked in the moment. The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe was the perfect place to rejuvenate, reconnect and celebrate love as 2015 comes to an end.

Cozying up with Holiday spirit in The Ritz-Carlton Living Room

The service at The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe was impeccable. We were continuously amazed by the thoughtfulness and warmth of every staff member we encountered.  Chaz at guest reception, Chef Chris Watkins, Jessica from housekeeping, the ladies at the spa & the mountain concierge– all were to the nines. Nothing was out of reach, and everything was so harmonious.

We had the most magical time just being there–from the frosted trees, to the glittering snow, to the overwhelming moments of adventure. We will remember this trip with so much love.

TIPS:

  • Get to the spa 40-30 minutes before your appointment to enjoy the restoration lounge/ eucalyptus steam/heated lap pool/ sauna / polar shower before your massage to ease into deep relaxation
  • The espresso intensity 4 tastes much better than intensity level 10
  • Visit the pool/hot tub at night under the stars
  • Brunch on Sunday  at Manzanita?
  • Order a side of the cauliflower from Manzanita! IT is AMAZING
  • Be sure to have chains in your vehicle when traveling to/from Lake Tahoe
